Future of Mobile Networks: The Innovation of 5.5G technology

Huawei is a prominent telecommunications company that has played a significant role in advancing 5G technology. 5G represents the fifth generation of wireless technology, delivering faster data speeds, reduced latency, and the capability to support a broad spectrum of applications, including the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, and augmented reality.

While there may have been dialogues and potential concepts for technologies surpassing 5G, they have not gained widespread recognition or standardization as "5.5G." Typically, the evolution of wireless technology has adhered to a numeric sequence, progressing from 2G to 3G, 4G, and 5G. Any subsequent developments beyond 5G would likely be designated as "6G" or an equivalent nomenclature.

Next-Generation Wireless: 5.5G Connectivity

On June 29, 2023, in Shanghai, China, Huawei made a significant announcement during the 5G Advanced Forum at MWC Shanghai 2023. The company revealed its plans to introduce a comprehensive suite of commercial 5.5G network equipment in 2024, signifying the commencement of the 5.5G era in the ICT industry. The announcement was made by Yang Chaobin, Huawei's Director and President of ICT Products & Solutions.

The 5G deployment has witnessed rapid progress over the past four years, resulting in substantial financial gains. At present, there are more than 260 operational 5G networks globally, serving a user base exceeding 1.2 billion, with 115 million users enjoying gigabit F5G services. As service models and content offerings continue to evolve, technological breakthroughs, such as glasses-free 3D experiences, are providing users with immersive and unparalleled experiences. Nevertheless, these innovative services necessitate more robust 5G network capabilities, and the industry has collectively acknowledged that 5.5G represents a pivotal milestone in the evolution of 5G technology, and this milestone is approaching rapidly.

Huawei has introduced the concept of the "5.5G Era," which is founded on an end-to-end solution integrating advanced technologies, including 5.5G, F5.5G, and Net5.5G. This innovative solution aims to safeguard operators' prior investments in 5G infrastructure while delivering a remarkable tenfold improvement in network performance. The 5.5G Era is characterized by peak downlink speeds of 10 gigabits and peak uplink speeds of gigabit, catering to the diverse and evolving needs of various services. Additionally, it reimagines the industry landscape by leveraging new technologies like passive IoT, potentially unlocking a market with 100 billion IoT connections.

Expected Launch Date and List of available countries will be updated in near future.
